Lauren Tobias joined Brown and Weinraub after serving as the Director of the Division of Family Health in the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Title V Director. In this role Lauren oversaw NYS’ initiatives aimed to improve and promote quality sexual and reproductive health services, perinatal health outcomes, and improve women, infant, child, and adolescent health and well-being. Lauren created a health equity team to focus efforts on addressing racial disparities and support a racial justice framework for the Division’s initiatives.
Lauren has served in several other state positions including Deputy Director for Policy in the Office of
Heath Systems Management and the Assistant Division Director, Program Development and
Management, in the Office of Health Insurance Programs where she played an integral role in
implementing the initial set of Medicaid Redesign initiatives, including Health Homes. Lauren also
served in the NYS Assembly and worked in the nonprofit sector on policy and advocacy related to public health and social service systems which serve people of reproductive age and families.
Lauren earned her BA from Muhlenberg College and her Master’s degree in Public Affairs and Policy
with a concentration in health policy from the Rockefeller College of the State University at Albany.
Lauren was the recipient of the 2019 NYS Department of Health Employee of the Year.
